This race meeting was started by Bob Blythe as a way of getting great machinery back on the race tracks in Australia.
Many great names have raced at this meeting including the world Champions Phil Read, Jim Redman and Barry Sheene. Barry returned to racing at this race meeting and put in some great performances.

Barry Sheene was the epitome of a modern sports superstar, attracting fame, the media and public attention. Except that Barry had that larrikin edge that made him so much more interesting and fun than some of our more modern sanitised sports heroes.
Barry Sheene was something more, he was funny, brave and above all else unaffected and modest.

I first saw him with my brother in Victoria in 1988. Barry was commentating at a race meeting in Victoria. We walked past the commentary box, "That's Barry Sheene" I said, amazed at running into a famous person. "Yes, he lives out here now because his legs work better in the warm weather" my brother said.

We yelled out 'Hello Bazza'....... 'Alright lads?' was the response.
Then I saw him again a couple of years in a row at this meeting, an ordinary bloke (OK, he arrived by helicopter) racing on a Sunday afternoon.

Bob Blythe has handed this race meeting over to the Post Classic Racing Association of NSW to run.
Thanks Bob, it is a great gift.

The PCRA are dedicated to running this race meeting as a memorial to what one special person means to all of us motorcyclists: Barry was a friendly, free spirited bike racer and rider. He is a great example to us all.

In the future, the PCRA wants to make this Barry Sheene Festival of Speed mindful of Barry's memory and much more a celebration of motorcycling lifestyles.

Thanks to all the supporters of this race meeting. We'll see you here in 2012, bring your mates and celebrate the life of a great bloke
